Lady Luck!

Luck is a funny thing.

Ever eluding!

Or may be you are foolish to believe that you will have lady luck by your side, sometime...

Hasn't life's lessons taught you anything?

Stupid. Stupid me.

Can I grab her by the throat and shackle her with chains?

But even for that, I need to find her once. Only then can I never let go off her...

Numbers...

What's in a number?
Lot many things.
The possibility of connecting two dots...of making one plus one two.
The earth that formed 3000 years ago.
The years spent in waiting for the "miracle" to happen.
The 9 months that mothers wait.
The 10-minute plans.
The last second sprint by the olympic runner.
And for someone, it might just be 27 and counting...

Numbers that can be so insignificant when seen separately, but makes so much sense and value when weaved with some stories around.

Irony...

Many people have come and told me that they like me because I am very wise. They look up to me for the wisdom I pass on. If they wanted an "Agony Aunt" I will be the first person to come to their minds.

Haa!

Of what use is this wisdom? Does it prevent me from getting hurt? Does it foretell me the pain that I might endure? Does it help me in identifying douche bags who might bother me?

What use, you tell me?...

If coulds, would haves and the what ifs

Life is full of those.

There are so many things that do not get as planned. You are stuck counting what went wrong and then trying to come up with a recovery plan...

But after retrospect and later while, you cannot help but ignore the what ifs...the could haves and the would haves! What if, now that dream did come true...I would have been living in a fairy tale set amid snow-clad mountains? Oh, what if the world wasn't so mean, we all would have been blessed with so much happiness?

What if all I ever want to say remains a fumble and an expression here or there? It can lead to a disaster? An emotional catastrophe? But then I would have been an mime expert? Or I would have found someone who would have understood the language...?

Yes, the what ifs and the would haves...thank you, for making our lives so believable and yet not so.

Winning hearts...

How easy it is? Or rather difficult?

Let's weave a story with words...would that suffice?

Would ending with "happily ever after" create a sense of curiousity and excitedness enough to let them sigh and drool. And let us win their heart...?

Let's weave a story for a child of every age. Let's concentrate on the gravity of each word said, and then,  sentences and paragraphs so strongly put together, would lead to nothing, but, win their hearts!

Let's create a graphical journey...because a picture says a thousand words. Show the setting sun, the splashes of waves, and the chirping birds. Let's put them in the foreground and let them imagine for themselves - how wonderful it might be...and win their hearts?

And if everything else fails...let's just put them together. In a cubicle full of coffee aroma. Let them realize the depth of understanding. If silence, awkward glances, and muted conversations would dwell something within them, we would know we have won their hearts...

A friend narrates her story or journey to finding the perfect groom. And she would vote 5 stars for this :)

Uncertainity...

Many things in life are unpredictable. Rather most things are.
Yet, we human, take this factor in our strides and continue moving on...and how?! Seen those huge schedulers and the calendar appointments through the year?
Yes, we plan. For the future. Daily planner / Weekly Planner/ Monthly planner and so on...
A mundane day in office, or so it seemed, turned out to be a nightmare for so many of my ex-colleagues/friends.
Getting laid off is not easy. It hurts. (Ouch). And it leaves you so unprepared for the future.
It is like "a surprise test" that we had in schools and colleges...or may be worse?
It has been only a few months since I took up this new job, and my previous colleagues are being asked to leave since the company is "down sizing"
One call from the HR; one visit to the boardroom, and it is the "end"
They do not count the number of hours you have put in - the years you have toiled - nothing matters.
Is it not completely unethical for companies to fire people like this?
Yes, they have provided a three month severance package, but what about the mental chaos?
Some say this is an opportunity for them to move forward...but really, why don't you show me the picture that I am going to move forward -- rather than being pushed forward!?
I am blessed / lucky to have not been in the company at this moment, but my heart goes out for those who were...
They all had dreams/ financial responsibilite/ new births in the family/ marriages around the corner...now what happens to all those?
Yes, they will move on...and begin a new phase of life...but it hurts a lot to being pushed in the valley without a warning.
They all must have planned for Saturday and Sunday...without realizing  that this Friday would never be forgotten! :(

Pillow talk...

"So, what exactly did you remember from the first time that we met?"
"Well, let me see. It was probably the fact that you came on time."

You know those moments in life that you wished you had frozen at that point of time, or those that when occurs makes you realize that this is something I am going to remember forever. Or those when you blink or stare at the wonderful scenery ahead of you and wish that you could capture or re-live them as and when you want. Rare fleeting moments. Small kind talks.

There may be many things in life that matters. Some small, some big. But nothing can match the pleasure of the little joys of life.

Why fret?

...over the rising costs? Over the long list of to-do's? Over the escalating grocery rates? Or the cost one has to pay to buy a matchbox of a flat? Over the weight on the head and the pile on the office desk?

Stop. See the clear sky above. Smell the roses. Dance and cook. Live a fret-free life, as it was meant to be!

You and I
In this beautiful world
Green grass & blue sky!

Sometimes in life, this is all one wants! And needs!

Will I be known as the girl with "some weird hair cut"?

:(

Thank god that messed up look is sort of "in" otherwise I would have never managed to keep my hair the commercial-types smooth, silky and bouncy. I got this hair cut (I have once like in 2-3 months, don't ask me why) a few weeks back, and now a part of the length has grown and somehow I feel its making my hair look weird. Very weird. Like there is a bounce on one side, and a little curve at the bottom making it overall look like 'I have just got out of bed' look and also "I do not have a comb, why do you care?"

Oh the phases, and my stupid fears!

Fragments of imagination...

The present has engulfed her so bad, or was it the past that kept haunting her? She does not know what it was. The fact that she is trying to break the shackles of those rusted grey cells that dream of future, tells that her present is trying to move ahead? She is planning on planning for the future. Plans that mean more than filling the daily planner. But her pen does not frame a word. Her thoughts become hazy and digress.
She wants to dream. The way a common man dreams. Why is it so difficult? Has she succumbed to the fact that destiny will take over and lead her the way he wants to? Or is she being just too scared to speak out her feelings. Her fear of having things not the way she wants them. Her fear of not finding what she is looking for. Her fear of losing even before the battle began. Her fear of not even knowing what was she looking for...

It pains a lot...

No, this is not about heart break or dreams shattering...

But you know what pains a real lot?
Much more than seeing the weighing scale tilt to the dreaded right...
Much more than not being able to fit in your oh-i-look-so-sexy top
Much more than not being able to get the movie tickets after you reach the theater
Much more than eating some crappy Shawarma for which you paid a zillion bucks...
Much more than missing the season finale of Desperate Housewives...
Much more than getting completely drenched in the rains post the movie you did not want to see...
Much more than not reaching home on time and missing out on the much-needed-sleep

Oh, well,
Yes, what pains more than all of the above...is....
Finding your chipped tooth in the food you were chewing!
So, as I was munching on this lebanese food during the weekend during a casual trip for a movie and dinner, I hog on the nachos (which by the way were from ''Not just Fries''..and they were good) and realize that err...something is not right!

And, brace yourself, what do I see...a teeny weeny part of my tooth is floating in the food...in my mouth! YES!!! That was gross! Shocking! Unbelievable! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what I saw! All the happiness and sadness that was engulfing me just took a kick, and all that mattered to me was the chipped tooth...or rather what is left from the chipped tooth. Luckily it is not the incisor or something, it is the molar. And it is really a teeny weeny bit; like I can munch and chew food just like I used to. But then, a part of me, has just departed. And I feel sad. In pain. And *sigh* what not. RIP, you sweet dear part-of-tooth!

Oh man, the trip to the dentist...not again :(((((

*Sigh*

I might be the only person on the face of the earth that knows you're the greatest woman on earth. I might be the only one who appreciates how amazing you are in every single thing that you do, and how you are with Spencer, "Spence," and in every single thought that you have, and how you say what you mean, and how you almost always mean something that's all about being straight and good. I think most people miss that about you, and I watch them, wondering how they can watch you bring their food, and clear their tables and never get that they just met the greatest woman alive. And the fact that I get it makes me feel good, about me.

---Melvin Udall, As good as it gets

She knows. Deep within. This is what she wants. This is what that will make her heart go waltz..on a simple street, no matter the weather, no matter if she is in her PJs, no nothing would matter. Even after hearing this...feeling this...she is being stalled by something. Will she know what? Why is her conscience not confronting her and asking her to move forward. Why is she taking her time? Will she hear this again...? Will it be the same? Devotion and nicety. Will it?

Oh, the questions! And the blank wall for answers. And a tumultuous applause is being played by the thoughts in the brain. Each tugging ahead of each other. Which thought will move forward and win the place to be at the tip of her tongue? Or will they never form words? Will the words give rise to a feeling? Or should she WAIT...

Is it a tunnel that I am passing through?
Cos it is wide, dark, and messy too
Or have I reached the bottom of the abyss?
Or is it too soon to reach there or anywhere?
When is soon, too soon?
How will time tell me when is it right?
How will I get the signs?
Will I ever perceive them?
Or they will just pass me by...?
And I will continue wandering through?

Chaehal!

When the cute little dollop of joy that came in our lives turned a year old yesterday, I realized how big she has really grown.

She mostly recognises me :-)
She smiles showing off the cutest little teeth that she has started getting!
She flashes off a nice smile in front of the cam!
She walks with an amazing gait that says hold me, don't let me go!
She looks upto you and clings to your legs and yells take me in your arms, that's like the most amazing form of desperation a child can show off :-)
She holds onto you uber tight once after she has fallen or got herself hurt...that grip on the shoulder feels so very amazing!
She has her moments of silence and wails in between all the routine of hers...and even they feel good!
She hates when people messes up her too much and coodles her tightly and never let her go...she almost always frees herself from those tight hugs!
Oh, those, chubby, cheeks!
And she sleeps with the most amazing of the positions possible...here, there, and everywhere :)

How much fun a nice little being can bring into your life! Can you ever measure it?
She frees me of all the work stress whenever I see her and meet her. It's like I forget what else is happening in my life. The worries, the tension...all *boom* gone!

What a joy!

The pink ribbon!

Things do not repel me easily. Or so I think. Bloody images, nasty scenes do not bring out a shriek or "oh my god" outta me, easily.
But just googling cancer images has left me speechless. Such gory images, such an ugly face this disease has!
I have a few close people who have been inflicted by this nasty disease...and after years of treatment and medications, they are still fighting against the disease.
I have known cancer as an "interesting field for study."  When I did my bit to eradicate cancer during my post graduation studies, I felt proud. The published papers and the dead mice played an unpleasant game in my mind, and each time I did something good (or so I felt) I used to feel I am just repaying the debt I own to the mice I killed!
No matter the available research, the literature, the disease remains yet to be eradicated. The chemotherapy kills the inflicted person. The side effects and the pain are so unpleasant.
It is not the cancer awareness month or anything, but I so am planting a pink ribbon on my dress today.
Dear God, do not spread this disease or the tumour.

Goal!

A friend recently said the goal was "Car" at 25...fulfilled a year later.
Another one said, "Marry at 27" fulfilled 6 months later.
Yet another not-so-friend said, "See 10 states/2+ countries" till 25....fulfilled, much more than the aim.

I sit and ponder, what was mine?
Good education, good degree, good job, tons of money, car?
Where was the goal? What was the line? Or the thin line between goal and achievements has been so blur that I never saw it?
Heck!
Ok, so I have written down a few things I should have achieved by 30 (now, I can't do for 25 :( )
And let's hope that that goal setting (howmuch ever materialistic or monetary it seems) helps me in ways more than one.

Do not GLOAT!

Just like that...while traveling some two days back, I gloated over the fact that how I have never lost a cell phone or wallet!! And guess what? I am not finding my library book since that day. Orhan Pamuk :(

I called them today and confessed the misplacing of the book and promised I will replace the book.

But then, like a strict teacher, they told me I gotta go there fill in some forms, finish all the legal formalities and then they will decide what to do next with the "crime"

Well, well...

Lesson learnt: Do not ever gloat about things...life comes back to you at a full circle!! :'(

Happiness is a decision you make, not an emotion you feel

She was one of the most lively person known to me. She taught me, not exactly with a pen and slate, the importance of being self, the respect and knowledge that can be gained by doing the most mundane of the stuff, and the importance of being with family, loving them, cherishing them. She taught all this by being a mere example. Her cherubic self was contagious. I realized how easy it is to look upto her.

She loved him. Or so she said. She kissed him. Or so she said. But when time came to take a decision, she flipped. She took back the small little steps that she had taken towards him. She flinched cos she knew her family will never approve. Or may be neither will his. Two mature individuals not taking the bait called 'love' cos there are bigger things in life to be concerned about.

The spectator saw it all, and believed it might be a wise decision. However, the spectator knew if places were exchanged, she wouldn't do the same.

Then she fell in love again. To the disgrace of her own self, a similar one. She loved him. Or she believed. This he was more strong and sturdier to take the forbidden path, if need be. He did not care about her family views or decision. She believed, she cannot make the same mistake twice. She ought to stay firm this time. He went thousand of miles apart, with no contact for a few months. She realized, may be, it is not meant to be. The "they" never worked out. She realized how she ought to behave and believe the best is gonna come only through family consensus.

She was born with the idea of believing this.

I never agreed. The spectator argued. She sighed, and said it aloud, one does not think about all this. That is the best remedy. Just go with the flow. And see what destiny holds for you. Be happy under any given circumstances. Well, I argued, with this school of thought, no one will ever be unhappy? Or may be, I was talking alone and not too loud.

She got married to a guy she did not love. This she definitely believed. She was not prepared to be with him, life long. Yet, she gave in. To the demands and expectations of the family and the society. This is when, I realized I can never be her. Nor ever look upto her. She isn't me. I cannot be she. I will not succumb to certain demands. Independency and freedom mean a lot to me. I was taught to respect this since birth.

He is definitely not for she. Yet they live on, move on, settle down, make love and babies. Now, she loves he. She did what she has been doing all these years, loving respecting and enjoying family, responsibilities, and probably life.

She does not mind not getting her freedom. Not getting the independency. Not getting her degrees to use. She does not mind missing all her TV shows, cos he does not like it. She does not miss the shopping sprees or the roadside foods we shared.

She does and did what she has been doing the best. Playing roles, different roles, with ease. She gets in the skin with such an ease, she sticks to duties like a magnet to iron. She sighs, may be. She never thinks, mostly.

She lives on. She loses her youth a tad too early. In today's world, too early. I watch and realize, do I really wish to look upto her?

I will probably never be the daughter, sister, wife, and mom she is...and then I just do not know, whether I wanna be all this like her, or I love the way I am portraying a few of these roles.

Different worlds. Different strokes. Today, if we both were to paint a picture of our lives, the disparity would be too obvious. Would the colors she use be all hueless? Or more bright than ever before?

Shall I pray that her babies do not do things that she did. Do not give up on ideas and ideals, like she did. Do not get influenced by family and society to an extent of losing self identity. Or may be pray, that they be, just like her. Strong and sturdy, and probably disciplined enough to love life, whatever it may be like. Decide to be happy, and not probably go for feeling it!

Life is so simple for an ugly male!

Before you huff and puff regarding the title, I will like to tell you to read the entire story. And then, agree or disagree, or whatever stand you may wanna take.

Yes, life is so simple for an ugly male. This thought came to me yesterday evening when I saw Pranab Mukherjee attending this press conference. All of a sudden it struck me, how he might be unprepared for it, how he might would have changed to his symbolic white kurtas and pyjamas, (he also had a tricolor scarf hanging around) and come to this conference. Chances are high, that he did not get time to look into the mirror or comb his sparse hair.
No, I am not saying PM is ugly. Definitely not ugly.
But you get what set the thinking process running? Yes, how easy it is to not worry about how you look, or dress, or care! All you need to do is dress up and show up.
Agreed, the male today grooms and cares as much as a lady. The salon that I go to for hair cut is bisexual. And there are more men than women who are looking forward to hair spas and head massages, and cleanups, and facials. Yes, the modern men care how he looks. He shaves off his smelly armpits, he shaves off his thick curly calf hair, he shaves off his chest to show off his packs, howmanyever they may be. He does it all, to be that model for the men "fair and handsome"!
It does matter that today he cares. He uses deo, perfumes, gels, and all things possible to give and get that smart crispy, fresh, look.
You get the point. I cant think of more things the men today might be doing, cos I might just drool at the thought. :D
How different it is for a lady?
Well, for starters the beauty parlour routine is much strict. You do not wanna have your eye brows not threaded incase of an emergency meeting. Or your arms not waxed incase you have to wear some short sleeved blouse. Girls, ladies, women, all have to be on their toes all the while, and groomed to face the situation or occupation. Imagine the terror when one rolls the pant cos it rained, and some gross hair standing out. You definitely do not want that. Men, can may be, do that. But women, I am sorry. It is definitely gross.
So, the urban women does all this. Attends office, college, chores. She is always up for the occasion. Not to mention, at her very best.
She comes in at 9 am, neatly made hair, no dripping sweat, threaded brows, bleached facial hair, waxed arms and legs, toned face, moisturized lips. Now whether or not she is beautiful or ugly does not matter much. She gotta do all this. I do not know many women who wouldn't care. All of us belonging to this species, ugly or beautiful, care how they look. We see the mirror whenever we pass one. We stand and stare the figure in front of us. We are choosy for what we wear. Aware of what we accessorize it with. We know the shoes that will fit us, we know the latest style. And incase we had to go for a press conference at the last minute, omigosh, we would be making some very rapid trip to the parlour or the restroom to dab the compact and lip gloss. Without that, am sorry, I cannot face the camera. Let's say the female politicians that are coming to my mind may not be too religious of doing what all I have mentioned, but how many of us have seen Sushama Swaraj or Sonia Gandhi with a strand of hair outta place??
Now, why do I say it is easy for an ugly men. Or may be for men who doesn't care. Very few females doesn't care. May be we are made to care about our looks. Beauty is a term restricted just to us.
The cover photo of this weekly magazine had the pic of this head honcho of an IT company. I would not name him or the magazine, but believe me, the picture was eeww...I could count the number of blackheads on his nose! I could see the bad job of shaving that was done. And his uncombed hair. Okay, so he does not to the parlour or salon to get himself groomed, but come on, you cannot have such a pic on the cover page. A lady head would have never approved the publication of such a pic. But then, this man, my dear man, doesn't care.
Fair enough. This another head honcho of an IT company is definitely the below-average looking man. I do not even remember him changing the frame of his spectacles in all these years. Humble, yes. Simple, yes. He doesn't care. And its so easy to be him. Get up, wear your tie and suit. And there you are. Ready to go and face the world.
Ever wondered in a pub, how all girls are so neatly dressed and accesorized. And all some males have to do is put on a tee and jeans. So easy, I tell you. We spend hours thinking what to wear, what not to wear. And there they are, putting on a cartoon oversized tee, and some torn jeans!! So easy!!
Ugly males, or males who do not care how they look, are one lucky herd. I will specifically mention males, since I do not know many females who wouldn't care. Its tough to be out there, and not care or wonder about my hues and shoes.
I wish I were a male. I would buy the best of the shirts and trousers. And that's all that is to there. May be I wouldn't shave off my body hair, and probably I will go the parlour for a facial once in two months.
I will use deo and perfume everyday.
For all I care, this would suffice !!

My workplace and I

I have got such boring colleagues. Its been four months now. I still do not talk, crack jokes, laugh, share, the way I did in my last company. I am not liking the whole idea. I am like working quietly, in my own sweet world. I might be reflecting self as one arrogant, moody, and 'do not disturb' me person.

No movies after work. No one to go out for luncheons and dinner with. Oh, the fruit eating times. The coffee breaks. The long chats. The orange candies.
There is so much to miss!

I have/had made some awesome friends at my previous workplace. I guess, its rare to find such wonderful people at work. Who are much more than colleagues.

Here, I just wish, someday I meet somebody, to whom I will so lovingly say the line I so wish to say since a long time.

"Where were you all this while???"
